CHASE Encounters Conference Support Officer

Hours: Casual / ongoing

Salary: £11.06 per hour (grade 4, point 1) – paid in arrears via timesheet

Reporting to: CHASE Co-ordinator

Encounters is the bi-annual cohort conference for all CHASE funded students. The conference is a mix of student showcases, skills development workshops, and social activities. The conference is typically scheduled for November in the autumn term and May or June in the summer term.

Your role will be to support the CHASE team and organising committee for each conference.

Duties will include:

  • Canvass student contributions to the conference and work with students to deliver these contributions.
  • Liaise with speakers and facilitators due to contribute to the conference.
  • Assist with room bookings, making arrangements with external suppliers and other logistics.
  • Assist with communications about the conference to students and faculty.

The role offers a number of training and development opportunities, including:

  • Experience organising a large academic conference.
  • Experience in events co-ordination and management.
  • Experience in administration and communications.

Person specification

Essential:

  • Currently studying for an arts and humanities PhD at a CHASE member institution.
  • Has the right to work in the UK on an ongoing part time basis.

Desirable:

  • Experience organising academic events.
  • Administrative skills and experience.
  • Marketing and communications experience.

CHASE Training Hub Support Officer

Hours: Casual / ongoing

Reporting to: CHASE Co-ordinator

The CHASE Training Hub is a growing resource for arts and humanities PhD students from CHASE and beyond. The open access platform hosts materials from CHASE training events and provides useful links to training resources for arts and humanities researchers.

Your role will be to develop the Training Hub by refining existing content and working with CHASE trainers to develop new content for the hub.

Duties will include:

  • Supporting colleagues to develop online training materials.
  • Reviewing existing training hub materials and the functionality of the platform.
  • Conducting user testing of the CHASE Training Hub and gathering feedback.
  • Researching and proposing developments to the platform and its integration with the online presence of CHASE.

The role offers a number of training and development opportunities, including:

  • Experience in technology enhanced learning.
  • Knowledge of doctoral training pedagogies.
  • Basic web design and content management.
  • Experience in administration and marketing.
