Intelligent Futures:Automation, AI and Cognitive Ecologies
A Postgraduate Conference supported by CHASE DTP and Sussex Humanities Lab
1 & 2 October | Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts, University of Sussex (map)
A two-day conference organised by CHASE DTP and the Sussex Humanities Lab (University of Sussex) engaging doctoral and early-career researchers working on philosophical, cultural and literary approaches to Artificial Intelligence. The aim of the event is to bring scholars from the humanities into discussion with their peers from the social sciences, informatics and engineering, psychology and the life sciences. This conference will promote critical and speculative engagements with questions of technical cognition, with special emphasis on sustainability and the emergence of new planetary ecologies of thought.
The keynote speech will be given by Professor Joanna Zylinska, Professor of New Media and Communications at Goldsmiths University of London. Professor Zylinska is Co-Head of Department and convenor of the MA in Digital Media: Technology and Cultural Form. Her work involves extensive work on technology and human-inhuman interfaces including Minimal Ethics for the Anthropocene (Open Humanities Press, 2014) and she is also an editor for Culture Machine, an international open-access journal of culture and theory. Further information on Professor Zylinska can be found here: https://www.gold.ac.uk/media-communications/staff/zylinska/.
Proceedings will include papers and a roundtable addressing a wide range of approaches to AI not limited to the following:
Natural and technical cognition

Lunch, breakfast, and refreshments are provided over both days for attendees.
