Textile Interpretations

  • Constance Howard Gallery Deptford Town Hall basement Goldsmiths, University of London (map)

Thursday 4 May
Constance Howard Gallery, Deptford Town Hall basement, Goldsmiths, University of London

This training is now fully booked

Textile interpretations: materialising history, visual culture, design and anthropology will help students unlock the potential of textiles, and textile products, as intensely intimate research sources through which to trace and reflect upon stories of colonization, nationalism, fashion, belonging, identity and culture.

With a focus on interdisciplinarity and object-based research – drawing on artefacts in the Goldsmiths Textile Collection –  the day will combine practical, hands-on sessions, led by staff from the Departments of Anthropology, Computing, Design, History and Visual Cultures, with reflective seminar discussion and exchange.

The course is suitable for students in all Arts and Humanities who wish to develop their ability to reflect on material encounters, critically engage with object-based research and rethink the meaning and purpose of archives.'
