Project title: Politics as Performance in Northern Ireland: ritual, community and ideology.

Supervised by Professor Stephen Church.

My PhD research focuses on John, Count of Mortain, as a trans-regional lord in late twelfth century England, Ireland, Normandy and the Welsh Marches. I am interested in exploring the degree to which these diverse lands were connected, how they were seen in their contemporary context, and the implications of these issues for concepts of empire, lordship and identity.
