CHASE Creative Writing Residency 2019: Day 5
Day 5 - Saturday 15th June 2019
North of Watford, just south of Chester, Uber-able from the station.
Today, like yesterday, and the day before, there’s a fly in the coachhouse kitchen. It panics at my actions to set it free and flies away from the open door. Poor stupid fly. I’ll try again tomorrow.
Hot drinks made, like master craftspeople, we head for the final workshop of the week. Novel writers, poets and scriptwriters converge on the sofas with annotated stories and MacBooks at the ready. Aga heat emanates from the kitchen. Questions posed, some answered, others pondered; another useful session for not just the two workshopees, but for everyone, you can see it in their eyes.
Dinner has been lovingly prepared but before we tuck in there’s just enough time for a group photo. The camera is readied, the 10 sec timer is set, and a picture is captured. At this moment, we feel like a family, I can feel it in my heart. The rain reappears and so we scupper inside with our plates. Cheesecake is devoured, Ghostpoet plays, Love Island is discussed. I’m going to miss this week.
Tomorrow I must save that fly.
