Brief Encounters Retreat

This two-day residential training retreat will provide an introduction to Brief Encounters journal, an open-access peer-reviewed postgraduate journal that showcases the interdisciplinary research of scholars, staff and non-Higher Education partners affiliated with the Consortium for the Humanities and Arts in South-East England.

Brief Encounters residential training

3rd and 4th August (venue TBC)

An intensive residential training weekend that is ideally suited to anyone interested in joining the Brief Encounters Editorial Board, publishing in the journal, or interested in the practicalities open access publishing more generally.

This two-day residential training retreat will provide an introduction to Brief Encounters journal, an open-access peer-reviewed postgraduate journal that showcases the interdisciplinary research of scholars, staff and non-Higher Education partners affiliated with the Consortium for the Humanities and Arts in South-East England. Attendees will receive a thorough overview of the Open Journal System (OJS), as well as an introduction to peer review, copy-editing, and layout editing. This retreat will form the basis of ongoing personal development for individuals who wish to pursue an academic career and/or those interested in joining the Brief Encounters Editorial Board, submitting to the journal, and/or with future career aspirations in the publishing industry. Activities and free time during the retreat will also facilitate cohort building, and allow attendees to build meaningful academic relationships with scholars from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds and geographical locations.
