Project Title: Articulating 'The Awntyrs off Arthure': a cultural mapping of Arthurian romance in English manuscripts of the fifteenth century.
This project will look at how the English gentry and mercantile classes of the fifteenth century appropriated the Arthurian legend to represent their own ideologies and cultural tastes. By looking at the books that they produced and owned, I will be able to identify the significance of these texts. By looking specifically at the 'Awntyrs off Arthure' through the method of cultural mapping, I should be able to identify more clearly how these texts were shared, read, and understood by these consumers and what impact this may have had on the dominant medieval culture.
Supervised by Dr Ryan Perry, University of Kent.
First year PhD, living in Canterbury.
Research interests include Middle English manuscripts and the visual and material cultures of the later middle ages.
