Project Title: Isabella of Angouleme: Queenship and Female Lordship in Thirteenth Century England and France
My thesis will examine Isabella’s roles as queen of England and female lord in France. I will assess and evaluate the available sources in the light of gender, queenship and lordship studies; considering them as material with the potential to demonstrate female aristocratic and queenly agency and power, and ultimately allow me to contextualise both roles socially, culturally and in terms of gender.
