The British Library's collection of manuscripts, printed books, archives, periodicals and electronic resources constitute one of the world’s finest resources for the study of Asia. They include more than 65,000 manuscripts; over 900,000 printed books in the languages of Asia, nine miles of archival records from the India Office, visual arts and photographic collections, and over 120,000 volumes of periodicals and newspapers. Other resources relevant to Asian and African Studies include sound recordings, maps and sheet music.
Our Doctoral Open Days are a chance for new PhD students to discover the British Library’s unique research materials. You will learn about our Asian collections, find out how to access them, and meet our expert staff and other researchers in your field. These events are solely for first-year PhD students who are new to the Library. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
